Milton Creamery is a family-owned, award-winning producer of Iowa artisan cheese, rooted in the rolling hills of Southeast Iowa. Founded in 2006 by the Musser family, the creamery began with a simple belief: great cheese starts with great milk. Partnering with small, local Amish and Mennonite dairy farms within an 85-mile radius, Milton Creamery uses high-quality, sustainably produced milk as the foundation for every batch.

Milton Creamery became nationally known for its flagship Prairie Breeze™ Cheddar—an award-winning, hand-crafted cheese aged for a minimum of nine months and celebrated for its sweet, nutty flavor and signature protein crystals. The creamery also produces Old Style Cheddar, Cheddar Reserve, flavored cheddars, and fresh cheese curds, each made using time-honored methods and careful craftsmanship.


Despite our small-town roots, Milton Creamery has a big reach. Our cheeses are enjoyed across the country thanks to strong relationships with distributors, cheesemongers, and retailers who value quality and consistency.

Morning Harvest, an “American Original”, draws on Milton Creamery’s expertise in creating cheddar-style cheeses, while also allowing their Swiss and German roots to shine.


This style of making cheese along with the proprietary blend of cultures results in a cheese that has an incredibly fruity aroma with a subtly sweet flavor and a creamy texture. It truly is unique.


Upon first taste, you’ll find notes of sweet cream and buttered popcorn with a lovely lingering finish. Aged for at least 7 months, it is firm yet sliceable in texture with superb meltability similar to that of a Havarti or Fontina.


The cheese is a collaboration between Milton Creamery and Kentucky-owned dairy farmers, which is the foundation of their purpose: to support the American Dairy Farming Community.

Prairie Breeze

A twist on a well-aged cheddar, Prairie Breeze™ is unlike any other.

Sweeter than your typical cheddar, Prairie Breeze starts with adding a proprietary blend of cultures and vegetarian rennet to coagulate the milk. The curds are cheddared and then aged for a minimum of 9 months.


Anyone who’s tasted Prairie Breeze knows that this cheese is different, but perhaps couldn’t put a finger on it. While it has the tangy, piquant, umami-rich flavor of many quality cheddars, a prevailing sweet and nutty profile emerges. It is full flavored with hints of pineapple and almond undertones. A crumbly texture develops along with an abundant amount of tyrosine crystals. Its paste is fudgy on the palate allowing it to linger on the tongue.

We like to say it is affordable enough for back of the house yet sophisticated enough for front of the house and it can compete against any imported specialty cheddar.
